PIETRO CHIESA
Son of the painter Pietro Chiesa, he began his apprenticeship with the painter Giovan Battista Gianotti. In 1921 he opened his workshop-store in Milan under the name of “Bottega di Pietro Chiesa S.A.”. In 1923, together with some artists including Gio Ponti, he formed the artistic association 'Il Labirinto' to promote the applied arts of the time. In 1930 he participated in the IV Triennale of Monza and in 1932 in the XVIII Venice Biennale. Three years later he became a partner of Luigi Fontana & C., which also incorporates the Chiesa shop and will become its artistic director together with Gio Ponti. In 1945 Chiesa ended his career as a designer. Chiesa is known today for its glassware, stained glass, mirrors, furniture and lighting.
